All researchers planning field work in the Kimberley region and/or through KMRS are reminded to please consider Native Title rights at all times. Native Title exists over the Kimberley mainland, coastline and islands. Please contact KMRS for more information.
When planning your research trip to KMRS:
1. Check the facilities and services available on the
pages (dropdown tab above) to assess what options are best suited to your research needs.

2. To register your interest and make a booking, please
and complete an Expressions of Interest Research Application ProForma (RAP). Please lodge your completed Application Form with us at least 3 months prior to any planned field work commencing through KMRS. We will then provide you with a work quotation for the trip. An invoice for field services will be sent via email to the field team leader at the completion of each field trip for full payment.
**Please note that we regularly revise and update our benchfees so please make sure you check costing and availability with us specifically for each trip.**
As we are a remote location, please remember that we cannot guarantee availability or provision of KMRS services for booking details that are confirmed at late notice. This includes accommodation, catering, vessels, laboratory space, transport, freight and support personnel. As such, we ask that teams please provide us with as much prior notice in booking as possible, ideally 3 months. Late notice bookings may incur a higher fee and may not be accepted under circumstances where we will be unable to provide adequate quality services given the timeframe.

Cygnet Bay is situated on the tip of the Dampier Peninsula 210km north east of Broome on the Cape Leveque Road.
Stretches of this road are unsealed and quite rough and access is restricted to 4WD vehicles only. Allow 2.5-3 hours drive time from Broome.
Please note that mobile telephone coverage on the Peninsula and along the Cape Leveque Road is patchy and that mobile phone service is only available through the Telstra NextG network.
Road conditions should be checked with the Shire of Broome on (08) 9191 3456 prior to your trip as the road is often closed in wet conditions (http://www.broome.wa.gov.au/roads.htm).
There is an unsealed dirt air strip at Cygnet Bay used regularly by charter flights throughout the dry season. During the wet, charter aircraft fly to the sealed airstrip at Lombadina (approx 18km by road south of Cygnet Bay) when the Cygnet Bay and One Arm Point dirt strips become unpassable.
